-1st Sunday in Lent-

In John 1:35-51, we see Jesus calling His disciples. The invitation “Come and see” appears repeatedly to Andrew and Peter, and to Philip and Nathanael. “Come and see,” these simple words awaken curiosity. This invitation is important because faith does not begin with certainty. It begins with invitation. Before we come to know something throughly and are persuaded into belief, perhaps faith slowly takes root through a gentle invitation, through curiosity, and through relationship.

The gospel began with one person choosing to follow Jesus. It was a journey of relationship. And even now, Jesus brings salvation by forming personal and intimate relationships with us. The gospel spread not by force or coercion, but by witness. It took root not through debate or persuasion, but through encounter.

I pray that we would experience that kind of personal and intimate encounter. I pray that faith would arise in us so that we may navigate this difficult and challenging world. With a longing heart to see our generation established in faith, may we become a community that worships and prays together.

-사순절 첫째주일-

요한복음 1:35-51에서 예수님께서 제자들을 부르시는 이야기가 나옵니다. “와 보라”는 권면이 안드레와 베드로에게, 빌립과 나다나엘에게 반복적으로 등장하고 있습니다. “와 보라” 단순하지만 궁금증을 유발하는 이 권면이 중요한 이유는 믿음이라는 것이 어떤 확실한 것에서 시작되는 것이 아니라 초대에서 시작되는 것이기 때문입니다. 무엇을 잘 알게 되어서 설득이 되어 믿음이 생기는 것 이전에 친근한 초대, 궁금증, 관계로 이어지는 과정가운데 믿음은 서서히 자리를 잡는 것이 아닐까 생각해 봅니다.

복음은 한 사람이 예수님을 따라 나서는 것에서 부터 시작됩니다. 관계의 여정이였습니다. 그리고 지금도 예수님은 개인적이고 인격적인 친밀한 관계를 맺으심으로 구원을 베푸십니다. 복음은 힘이나 강요가 아니라 간증으로 퍼져나갔고 복음은 토론이나 설득이 아니라 만남으로 뿌리를 내렸습니다.

우리 유스들이 그런 개인적이고 인격적인 만남이 있기를 기도합니다. 어렵고 힘든 세상을 헤쳐나갈수 있도록 믿음이 생기기를 기도합니다. 함께 기도로 우리 다음세대가 세워지길 간절히 바라는 마음으로 예배드리는 우리 될수 있기를 바라겠습니다.
