-Easter Sunday-

John 20:11-18

On the first Easter morning, while it was still dark, a woman stood outside an empty tomb, crying.

While the disciples returned to their stay after seeing the empty tomb, Mary Magdalene stayed, still. She was desperate, heartbroken, and deeply devoted to Jesus. Leaving the empty tomb was not her option. She loved Jesus too much to walk away.

And so, it was to her, not to the disciples, the risen Jesus chose to appear first. It was not by accident. In a culture where a woman’s testimony was not even considered valid in a court of law, Jesus broke the social expectations. But He spoke her name. “Mary.” In that single word, Jesus turned her grief into the greatest announcement in human history: “I have seen the Lord!”

Mary found the risen Jesus first not because she was the strongest or the most theologically prepared. She found Him because she loved Him earnestly, desperately, and refused to give up.

This Easter, I hope you can come and encounter the same risen Lord, Jesus, the One who sees you in your grief, who calls you by name, and who is still in the business of turning mourning into joy. Please join us this Easter Sunday to worship together.

 -부활절 주일-

요한복음 20:11-18

부활의 첫날 아침, 아직 어두울 때 한 여인이 빈 무덤 밖에서 울고 있었습니다. 제자들은 빈 무덤을 보고 그들이 머물렀던 곳으로 돌아갔지만, 막달라 마리아는 그 자리에 남아 있었습니다. 그녀는 절망가운데 있었고, 마음이 아팠습니다. 예수님을 깊이 사랑했기 때문이였습니다. 예수님을 찾아 볼수 없는 빈무덤을 뒤로하고 돌아갈수 없었습니다. 그녀는 예수님을 너무나도 사랑했기 때문에 무덤에 머물렀습니다.

그래서 부활하신 예수님은 제자들이 아닌 그녀에게 먼저 나타나셨습니다. 결코 우연이 아니였습니다. 당시 여성의 증언은 법정에서조차 인정을 받지 못하던 문화 속에서, 예수님은 사회적 관념을 깨뜨리셨습니다. 그리고 그녀의 이름을 부르셨습니다. “마리아야” 그 한 마디로 예수님은 그녀의 슬픔을 인류의 역사상 가장 위대한 고백으로 바꾸셨습니다. “내가 주님을 보았다!”라고 말입니다.

마리아가 부활하신 예수님을 가장 먼저 만난 것은 그녀가 가장 강했기 때문도 아니고, 가장 신학적으로 뛰어나서도 아니였습니다. 그녀는 예수님을 아주 간절하게 기다렸고, 끝까지 포기하지 않았기 때문에 그분을 제일 처음으로 만날 수 있었습니다.

이번 부활절에 여러분도 같은 부활의 주님, 우리의 슬픔 가운데서도 우리를 보시고, 이름을 부르시며, 여전히 애통을 기쁨으로 바꾸시는 예수님을 만나시기를 소망합니다. 함께 예배의 자리로 나아와 자녀세대와 함께 주님의 부활을 기뻐 춤추는 시간이 되기를 소망합니다.
