-7th Sunday after Pentecost-

“Inheritance of Faith” - Genesis 25:19-34; Matthew 13:1-9

God often comes to us quietly. We encounter God as we meditate on the Word, worship together, and share our lives with honesty and openness. God does not always come through something dramatic or extraordinary, but often meets us gently in the ordinary moments of daily life. God comes to us through the promise of the Word and calls us to hold fast to that promise and live a life of love.

The story of Esau and Jacob in Genesis is not simply about which son received the blessing of the firstborn. The promise of blessing that God have through Abraham was an inheritance of faith, entrusted to one family so that it might be shared with all the families of the earth. It was a scared inheritance and a gracious gift, inviting them to participate in God’s promise of salvation. Yet Esau treated it lightly for the sake of immediate satisfaction, while Jacob tried to possess it through his own desire and ambition. One failed to recognize the value of God’s gift, while the other failed to receive it through faith.

Jesus’ Parable of the Sower asks us a similar question: How are we receiving the Word that God gives us? Does it remain only on the surface of our lives? Is it crowded out by other desires and worries? Or does it take root within us and bear fruit?

As I prepare for worship, I pray that the eyes of the next generation will be opened to recognize the gift of faith. I pray that the hearts of our youth be opened through Word, through praise and prayers. I pray that they may hear the voice of God and grow into young people of faith. Please pray with me as we go into the holy rest of the week.

-성령강림후 일곱째 주일-

“신앙의 유산” - 창세기 25:19-34; 마태복음 13:1-9

하나님은 조용하게 찾아올때가 많습니다. 말씀속에 조용이 묵상할때, 함께 예배드릴때, 숨김과 나눔을 가질때, 어떤 특별한 모습이나 방법이 아니라 일상에서 잔잔하게 찾아옵니다. 약속의 말씀을 붙잡고 사랑을 베푸는 삶을 사라는 부르심으로 하나님은 찾아옵니다.

창세기에 기록된 에서와 야곱의 이야기는 장자의 축복이 누구에게 주어졌는지에 대한 이야기가 아닙니다. 하나님이 아브라함을 통해 주신 축복의 약속은 한 가족을 통해 모든 땅의 가족들에게 나누어 주시기 위한 믿음의 유산이었습니다. 거룩한 유산이었고 하나님의 구원의 약속에 참여하는 은혜의 선물이었습니다. 그러나 에서는 눈앞의 만족만을 위해 그것을 가볍게 여겼고, 야곱은 자신의 욕심으로 그것을 차지하려고 하였습니다. 한 사람은 하나님의 선물의 가치를 알아보지 못했고, 다른 한 사람은 그것을 믿음으로 보지 못하였습니다.

예수님의 씨 뿌리는 사람의 비유도 우리에게 비슷한 질문을 던지고 있습니다. 하나님께서 주시는 말씀을 우리는 어떻게 받아들이고 있는지 말입니다. 그저 말씀이 삶의 표면에만 머물고 있는지, 다른 욕망과 근심에 밀려나고 있는지, 아니면 깊은 곳에 뿌리를 내려 열매를 맺고 있는지 말입니다.

우리 자녀 세대가 믿음의 선물을 바라보는 시선이 열리는 마음으로 예배를 준비해 봅니다. 말씀 가운데, 찬양과 기도 가운데 그들의 마음이 열려 하나님의 음성을 듣게 되어 믿음으로 삶을 걸어갈수 있는 우리 유스들 되기를 기도합니다.
