-Pentecost Sunday-

“Pentecost: When We Touched The Sky” - Genesis 11:1-9; Acts 2:1-21

This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday. Pentecost is also the historic moment when the church of Christ began. The holy work revealed through the coming of the Holy Spirit was an act of God’s mercy: forgiving the sin of humanity revealed at the Tower of Babel and gathering the scattered people back into one.

As people built the Tower of Babel, they were divided by pride and built a wall between themselves and God. But when the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost, everything changed. The walls between people came down, and the scattered were gathered again. Ordinary people who had been gripped by fear came to realize that they were receiving a love far beyond anything they could earn, prove, or build.

Yes, what we need is not to struggle to hold everything together by our own strength. What we need is to remain in the presence of God given to us through Jesus Christ. Then, by the power God gives, we are able to lay down the things we have been holding onto. And there is a miracle of God that can only be experienced when we let go. I sincerely pray that our generation and our children’s generation will become people who hold onto that grace.

This Sunday, may we come together to the place of prayer and seek the power of the Lord in a meaningful and grace-filled worship service.

-성령강림주일-

“오순절: 우리가 하늘에 닿았을때” - 창세기 11:1-9; 사도행전 2:1-21

이번 주일은 성령강림주일입니다. 성령강림은 예수님의 교회가 시작된 역사적 순간이기도 합니다. 성령 하나님께서 임하셔서 나타내신 거룩한 일은, 바벨탑 사건 속에 드러난 인류의 죄를 용서하시고 흩어진 사람들을 다시 하나로 모으시는 하나님의 긍휼의 사건이었습니다.

바벨탑을 쌓으며 사람들은 교만으로 나뉘었고, 하나님과 자신들 사이에 스스로 벽을 쌓았습니다. 하지만 오순절에 성령께서 임하시자 모든 것이 달라졌습니다. 사람들 사이의 벽은 허물어졌고, 흩어진 사람들은 다시 모였습니다. 두려움에 사로잡혀 있던 평범한 사람들은 자신들이 무엇을 얻어내거나, 증명하거나, 쌓아 올려야 받을 수 있는 사랑이 아니라, 그 모든 것을 뛰어넘는 하나님의 사랑을 이미 받고 있음을 깨닫게 되었습니다.

그렇습니다. 우리에게 필요한 것은 혼자의 힘으로 모든 것을 붙잡고 버티려 애쓰는 것이 아닙니다. 예수님을 통해 우리에게 주어진 하나님의 임재 안에 머무는 것입니다. 그때 하나님께서 주시는 능력으로 우리는 우리가 붙잡고 있던 것들을 내려놓을 수 있습니다. 그리고 내려놓을 때에만 경험할 수 있는 하나님의 기적이 있습니다. 우리 세대와 우리의 자녀 세대가 그 은혜를 붙잡는 세대가 되기를 간절히 기도합니다.

이번 주일, 함께 기도의 자리로 나아가 주님께 능력을 구하는 귀한 예배가 되기를 소망합니다.
